For seven years I taught for the Museum of Contemporary of Photography at Curie High School on Chicago's industrial Southwest side. Each year I led two 10-week advanced photography classes where students learned to operate a 35mm camera, develop their own film and process and print their own photographs.

HUMAN/NATURE was created in the Spring of 2009 for the MOCP's annual 'Talking Back' exhibit. This show highlights innovative text/image work being created by public school students throughout the city. The initial aim of the project was for the students to seek out and record nature in their neighborhoods - spaces they found solace and peace of mind in. Where did they find it? How did they experience and interact with it? The twenty student photographers found many tranquil and beautiful places. However, they quickly discovered that completely escaping into nature was an impossibility.
